About Us
Monarch Labradors is a small family-run breeding program nestled in the central Pennsylvania area. My journey with Labradors began 15 years ago when I was first introduced to a friend's Chocolate Labrador, Reece. She was the sweetest thing on earth (no pun intended)! After meeting her and witnessing her gentleness around my young children, I knew I had to have one of my own! My family purchased our first Lab, Tori, and I was hooked shortly after that. Over the years, I have owned several Labradors. While I had aspirations of breeding these dogs, the timing was never in my favor.
In 2020, with the support of my husband, I began searching for a foundation girl to start my breeding program. Even though I wasn't new to the breed, I was new to breeding, so finding a breeder willing to sell me a puppy with Full Registration proved to be difficult, especially given that I was searching for one with impeccable bloodlines. I am so thankful that my path crossed with Sue Dial from Juniper Southern Labradors, and she trusted me enough to give me a chance. My oldest son and I made the trek from Pennsylvania to Alabama to pick up our precious new girl, who we named Juniper's Black Tupelo Honey. Tulo for short.
The goal of Monarch Labradors is to produce quality AKC English Labradors with temperament, structure, and health in mind. Our dogs are DNA health tested through Embark and have their OFA Hip, Elbow, Eye, and Cardiac clearances to ensure that we produce genetically sound puppies for you and your family.
We also dilute test so that no dilute factors of silver, champagne, or charcoal will be part of our breeding program.

The circle of life . . . nature's way of reminding us that all living things are interrelated in a spiral that is centered around no clear beginning or end. As we think more lightly about our own journey and more deeply about the flora and fauna we share our lives with, we become more inspired, more fascinated, and more appreciative of this experience.
In 2022, we bought a 3.5 acre property in Akron, PA. It was not just any property. It was an unmanaged tract of land with a stream, buffered by overgrown invasive trees, shrubs, and vines . . . in other words, we bought a jungle. Ironically, it was the same piece of land that sparked my husband's curiosity for the natural world when he was a kid 45 years ago; a hike just down the hill from his grandparent's house . . . where his mother grew up. Here he learned to identify snakes and salamanders, birds and butterflies . . . and anything else he laid eyes on. Eventually, he became an elementary teacher, spending the past 25 years inspiring students to discover, explore, and learn about the world around them. His mother, a naturalist, gardener, and monarch butterfly enthusiast, passed away in 2011 from ovarian cancer. So, when we discovered that the land where he grew up was for sale, we knew what we wanted to do . . . and what we had to do . . . buy it!!! This would become our forever home . . . our next stage in the circle of life. At Monarch Labradors, we are committed to the stewardship of both the tame and the wild ones. Upon renovation, our riparian buffer property will become a nature preserve that is home to over 200 species of native trees, plants, and shrubs that provide habitat for our furry and feathered friends and is a true demonstration of the delicate relationship and balance between plant and animal. Symbolizing our Labrador breeding program is the Monarch butterfly; a species that represents all the things we are about . . . the circle of life, the fragility of nature, and the reminder that change is all in how you choose to view it. |
